RESOURCE REVIEW
The I-GOAL
Coaches and clubs face a number of issues when it comes to portable goals. Goal post safety is probably at the forefront, followed by the actual portability. Time is then directly affected by each of these issues. That is, in the case of steel framed portable goals, arriving early to unlock the goals, waiting until you have enough people to help move it, adding a net possibly, then reverse the process to lock them back up. Or in the case of a flex goal, taking the time to set it up. But then you have to make sure you have the location perfect, because you can’t move it once it is upright.
2008 saw the Australian market introduced to the I-Goal. This fully inflatable portable goal is available in seven sizes (from SSG to full size) and has revolutionized portable goals. Able to be inflated and deflated in minutes, the I-Goal includes an already attached net and folds up to fit into a carry bag. In fact when bagged, a full size goal easily fits into the boot of the average medium sized car.
The convenience these goals provide to coaches is phenomenal. Phil Holland from ESPN Soccernet had this to say about the I-Goal when he reviewed the product:
“the quality and durability means it can comfortably be put through its paces in a competitive game or used by coaches for training and would be particularly suitable for schools or grassroots football.”
The Football NSW High Performance Unit currently utilize the I-Goal in various sizes including coaching session on Football Stars of Tomorrow.
